Communications in crisis: on the ground in Haiti with Paul Margie, TSF

In times of disaster, it is food, water, and shelter that are always a top priority, while few recognise the true importance of communication as a fundamental humanitarian necessity.

The volunteers at Telecoms Sans Frontieres are dedicated to bringing communications solutions to the aid workers and citizens who need it most. Paul Margie, the group’s U.S. representative, just returned from a trip to Haiti, where the group set up various communications centres so that aid workers could communicate amongst themselves. Thanks to TSF calling centres, citizens could also call family and friends to let them know what had happened.

In 40 days in Haiti, TSF reconnected over 50,000 individuals with their family members.
