Gift aid

Every donation you make to Télécoms Sans Frontières - whatever its value - could be worth more at no extra cost to you just by choosing to Gift Aid it.

Gift Aid makes a huge difference to Télécoms Sans Frontières – for every pound that you give, we receive 25 pence from the Inland Revenue, which represents the tax that you have paid.

This means that if you give us £10, we actually get £12.50; and every £100 donated to us is actually £125!

   Gift Aid

I confirm that I am a UK tax payer and would like Télécoms Sans Frontières to reclaim the tax on my donations.

I would like all donations made in the current and previous four financial years, and any further donations that I may make until I notify you otherwise to be treated as Gift Aid            donations. I confirm that I have paid UK Income Tax and/or Capital Gains Tax at least equal to the tax that Télécoms Sans Frontières and all other charities to which I have              made Gift Aid donations will reclaim on my donations in the appropriate tax year - 25p for each £1 given.

I am not a UK tax payer or would not like Télécoms Sans Frontières to reclaim tax on my donations

Please make your choice above to proceed to your donation.

What is Gift Aid?
Gift Aid is a UK government scheme that allows charities to reclaim the tax that you have already paid on your donations through income tax or capital gains tax. Most donations made to Télécoms Sans Frontières by UK residents are eligible for the scheme – including regular donations such as standing orders and direct debits.

How do I know if I am a tax payer?
You ARE a tax payer if:
• Tax is taken from your wages or pension before you receive them
• You have to fill in a self-assessment form
• You have any taxable savings or a pension plan or investment income
• You have recently paid any capital gains tax, or expect to pay it in the near future. This could be on the sale of a property or some shares, for example.

A donor can use Gift Aid if the amount of tax they have paid in the tax year of the donation is sufficient to cover the amount of tax that charities will reclaim against the donations made to them by that tax payer. The tax paid by the donor may be Income Tax, Capital Gains Tax or tax credits on UK company dividends. Tax years start on the 6th April and run until 5th April the following year. You must pay at least the same amount of tax as Télécoms Sans Frontières and any other charity to which you make a Gift Aid donation will reclaim in Gift Aid in any tax year. For example, if you make a donation of £10, Télécoms Sans Frontières will reclaim £2.50 in tax from HMRC so you must have paid £2.50 in tax during

the tax year. If you are not a UK tax payer, for example if you are retired or a student, donation aid does not apply to you.

Can I use Charities Aid Foundation vouchers to make Gift Aid donations?
Télécoms Sans Frontières cannot reclaim tax on donations made through the Charities Aid Foundation in the form of vouchers or via your CAF account because the tax has already been reclaimed by you. However please complete and return the declaration form anyway so that any donations that you have not made from your CAF account or might make can be tax effective as well.

What do I need to do?
• On the website – Just tick I am a UK taxpayer and would like Télécoms Sans Frontières to reclaim tax on my donations then fill in the few details required - that’s all you need to do!
• By post - All you need to do is make a simple Gift Aid declaration including your name and full residential address including postcode. Click here to download a Gift Aid form, then just fill it in and return it to us at the address provided on the form. The declaration is Télécoms Sans Frontières’ authority to reclaim tax from HM Revenue & Customs on your donation. By making the declaration, you are confirming that you understand this.

Do I have to make a declaration with every donation?
No. You just need to tick the box on the declaration enclosed and it will cover the eligible donations you have already made over the past four tax years and any donations that you may make in the future – although there is no harm in completing a declaration if you have done so previously.

Can I withdraw a declaration on a particular donation?
If for any reason you decide that your donation should not be included in Gift Aid – perhaps you realise that you will not pay enough tax to cover the tax reclaimed by us – then simply email the financial team at finance@tsfi.org and we will withdraw it.

What if I pay at the higher rate?
Charities can only claim back tax at the basic rate, but that is still worth 25%, so please complete and return the declaration anyway. As a higher rate taxpayer you can in addition reclaim tax on your donations. All you have to do is remember to include details of your charitable donations on your self-assessment tax form to claim your additional personal tax relief of 20%. If you would like a receipt for eligible donations that you have made, please contact the financial team at finance@tsfi.org

What if I was a taxpayer last year, but am not this year? (or vice versa)
Please email the financial team at finance@tsfi.org who will be able to record details of this change.
