SUPPORTING MEDICAL TEAMS

2017 represents TSF's 6th year of presence inside Syria, highlighting the importance of telecommunications for medical coordination. Since its presence in 2012, TSF has connected 22 hospitals, 2 coordination centres, provided 11 satellites lines for medical aid coordination, and installed two educational centers for Syrian refugee children.
These connections, described by a Syrian doctor as "lungs of communication" are vital to medical organisations: they are used to guide and transport victims, to communicate needs and equipment in hospitals, and to provide statistical data of the patients.

Thanks to TSF’s connections, isolated Syrian hospitals can now use telemedicine as a means of communication with the outside world:
• Remote consultations are made possible;
• Syrian doctors can share their expertise and diagnostics with their colleagues around the world;
• Telemonitoring allows doctors to remotely manage the efficient functioning of several services (ICU, resuscitation unit ...)
• Doctors may be remotely assisted by medical professionals during consultations and operations.

Coordination, security, formal medical training sessions, telediagnosis, teleconsultation and remote assistance are just some of the different uses of the connections, with over 8TB of data transferred in the past year to the benefit of 365,006 people in need of medical aid.

Beyond the internet connections, there are also satellite lines dispatched throughout the country serving field doctors and ambulance drivers. Over 3,200 minutes of priority voice calls in 2016 allowed for 28,356 heavily injured individuals to be transported to care units across Syria.
